They say when you fall off a horse, you should get back on.
But it’s not that easy—especially when the “fall” was a terrifying, traumatic event. I’ve worked with survivors of domestic violence for 25 years, and for many of my clients, the abuse didn’t stop at home—it followed them into their cars. I’ve heard stories of perpetrators forcing victims off the road, chasing them down highways, or using vehicles as tools of intimidation and control. For these survivors, driving again isn’t just about transportation—it’s about reclaiming autonomy, safety, and peace of mind. That’s why this book struck such a chord with me. This book offers a trauma-informed, compassionate framework—called the S.A.F.E. Road Recovery Framework—that I believe can be an invaluable resource for counselors, therapists, and support advocates working with clients who have experienced driving-related trauma.
